Orthopaedic Surgeon

The Orthopaedic Clinic is pleased to announce the newest member of their medical team, Dr. Trent Wilson.

Dr. Wilson completed comprehensive orthopedic training at the University of Alabama, Birmingham where he had vast exposure to surgery of all aspects of the musculoskeletal system. His training included arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee, elbow and wrist and open surgery of the spine, hand, foot and ankle, including joint replacement of the shoulder, knee and hip. He also had in depth experience with pediatric orthopedics and management of orthopedic trauma and fractures.

Following his residency, Dr. Wilson moved to Taos, New Mexico to participate in a world class Sports Medicine fellowship program to further expand his skills as a minimally invasive orthopedic surgeon. His mentors at the Taos Orthopaedic Institute and Research Foundation exposed him to cutting edge technology and techniques for the management of common and complex orthopedic problems of the shoulder, knee and elbow.

Dr. Wilson's extensive training has prepared him to offer the latest in minimally invasive surgical options for treatment of shoulder, knee, elbow and hip problems. He offers all arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff tears and shoulder instability which allows for an excellent repair and a quicker, less painful recovery. He has a keen interest in shoulder reconstruction including standard shoulder replacement for arthritis and the newest procedure, the reverse total shoulder replacement, for patients with arthritis and irreparable rotator cuff tears. In the knee, Dr. Wilson offers anatomic, "all-inside" ACL reconstruction which is the least invasive technique performed today, allowing patients an excellent reconstruction without the pain, scarring and long-term problems associated with other techniques. In addition to treating common knee injuries and meniscus tears, Dr. Wilson has the expertise to perform more complex cartilage restoration and preservation procedures including meniscal transplantation which can put off the need for a knee replacement for many years. When the need for knee replacement does arise, Dr. Wilson uses custom, computer-aided guides to perform either a partial or total knee replacement, ensuring the most accurate match of the patient's anatomy. In the elbow, he offers arthroscopic treatment of many common and complex conditions including tennis elbow. He has experience in the "Tommy John" procedure, also known as UCL reconstruction, which can allow throwers with elbow injuries to return to their prior level of play. Dr. Wilson is also offering hip arthroscopy which is a cutting edge procedure that allows for minimally invasive treatment of hip problems, many of which could not have been treated prior to this new technology.

In addition to his specialized surgical training, Dr. Wilson has had extensive experience with sports medicine and athletic injuries. He has served as team physician for numerous high school athletic teams, college sports programs and the US Ski Team. He has a passion for treating athletes and weekend warriors of all ages and getting them back to their life and sport quickly and safely. In addition to treating injuries when they do occur, Dr. Wilson has an interest in injury prevention and has participated in camps, seminars and conferences for coaches, trainers, players and parents to educate them on how to properly train to prevent injury and optimize performance. He has a strong desire to continue these types of programs for the residents of Auburn and Opelika and the surrounding areas to make sports fun and safe for all involved.

Dr. Wilson is an Auburn native who was born and raised here. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to give back to the community who has given him so much. He will be seeing patients at our Auburn and Opelika locations. If you would like to schedule an appointment with Dr. Wilson, please give our office a call today.
